What we did Sunday January 18th, 2009

The Lasers and Flames once again combined forces. Given the proximity to Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday celebration, we thought it opportune to read his famous “I have a dream” speech aloud. We then watched a portion of the documentary “Brother Outsider.” In this movie Quaker civil rights leader Bayard Rustin organizes the glorious 1963 March on Washington in which King gave his speech. Popcorn was included.

Today the Lasers and Flames once again combined forces in order to perform feats of sledding on Libe slope. We especially enjoyed piling in together on Rini’s large toboggan. After many runs, an officer approached us and suggested that we sled in an un-restricted area instead. We returned to room 314 and held a discussion about what lessons we could learn from the act of sledding.

What we did on 1/4/09: Scruples

We combined the Lasers and Flames first day school classes and sat around the big table in room 314 to play Scruples. Scruples is a card game in which players publically respond to various ethical questions. A typical Scruples question might be “You mail order a widget and the widget company accidentally sends you two widgets. Do you return the extra widget?”
