A Visit by Joyful Freeman of AFSC’s Seattle Office

Joyful Freeman of the Seattle AFSC

Several Power Quakers joined the Lasers in a discussion with Joyful Freeman. Joyful is in town visiting the Clarkberg’s for the Light in Winter festival. Joyful works with Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transexual (GLBT) teens in her job with the Amercian Friends Service Committee (AFSC) Seattle office. Since we are studying Quaker activism in regard to GLBT civil rights, we thought it would be a good idea to invite Joyful to tell us what she does. She gave us a brief history of the AFSC and described a program she created in which GLBT teens tell their stories at various schools in the Seattle area. At first schools prevented them from performing. Now schools ask them to come!
