In-Person Meeting for Worship

Updated July 16, 2021

Ithaca Friends have adapted our Worship locations and procedures throughout the coronavirus pandemic to keep our IMM and wider community safe. Currently, Meeting for Worship is held in-person at both our Third Street Meetinghouse and our Hector Meetinghouse at 10:30am on Sundays. Certain protocols are in place and anyone attending Meeting in-person is asked to follow them. See below for more details.

General precautions

Our Covid-19 Working Group continues to review recommendations and procedures from the CDC, the Tompkins County Health Department, and New York State and makes recommendations to Ithaca Meeting as appropriate. When attending Meeting for Worship, committee meetings, or other gatherings at either our Third Street or Hector Meetinghouse, please adhere to these procedures:

  1. Do not attend worship if you are exhibiting any signs of COVID-19 or have reason to suspect you may have been exposed to COVID-19.
  2. Plan to wear a mask the whole time you are inside.
  3. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer upon arrival and as often as necessary.
  4. Maintain social distance from others as you arrive and as you leave and not to approach anyone at any time in the building – please take conversations outside.

Worship at Third Street Meetinghouse

An area of our meetingroom has chairs spaced 6 feet apart, while another section of the room has chairs placed closer together. You may choose where to sit based on your own comfort level related to social distancing. People who live in the same household can sit together.

You may consume food or drink inside the Meetinghouse, but please bring your own dishes. Although not COVID related, we remind people of the previous guidelines of not eating in the carpeted areas upstairs.

During Meeting for Worship, or any other IMM event in the meetinghouse, if there are fewer than 10 people in the meetinghouse, we will open the windows if the temperature is above 50 degrees. If there are 10-20 people in the meetinghouse, we will open the windows if the temperature is above 40 degrees. Otherwise, the windows will remain closed. Our intent is to use common sense while not making Friends uncomfortable unnecessarily.

Worship at Hector Meetinghouse

Weather-permitting, we worship outside at Hector. Please bring a chair to sit in. Updates related to worship being inside or outside, or other changes, are shared on our groups.io listserv, usually the day before. Please note that there are no bathroom facilities at Hector; a port-a-john is available.
