The Ithaca, NY Friends Meeting welcomes all. We hold a hybrid Meeting for Worship on Sundays at 10:30 am. A limited number of people can worship in-person in our Third Street Meetinghouse, while others worship from their own homes remotely via Zoom. Please see our IMM Covid-19 Resources page for more details, including a link to our Zoom meeting.
Meeting in the manner of Friends is a period of meditative worship. In silence, we seek to place ourselves in the presence of the Spirit. Friends may speak out of the silence as we are led.
“There is a principle that is pure, placed in the human mind, which in different places and ages hath different names. It is, however, pure and proceeds from God. It is deep and inward, confined to no forms of religion nor excluded from any, where the heart stands in perfect sincerity.”— John Woolman
A founding principle of Quakerism is that there is “that of God in every person” and that all people are endowed with this “Inner Light.” We pose searching queries; we strive to trust to love, rather than react to fear; we work towards peace because we believe it is the only way; we are led to implement our concerns for the equal rights of all. As an outgrowth of these precepts, the traditional “Quaker Testimonies” include simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality and stewardship (sometimes collectively referred to as “SPICES.”)
Many Friends have been drawn to Quakerism because of its dual commitment to spiritual awareness and social action. Friends work against forms of oppression–including racism, sexism and homophobia–and to promote environmental sustainability.
We welcome you to search with us.
